This historical fiction takes place sometime in the 1700’s. Robin Marie is a dark-haired beauty known for her archery, sword fighting and bare-back riding skills. She leads a group of rebels seeking justice for the needy – steal from the rich – give to the poor (somewhat along the lines of Robin Hood?) Enter tall, handsome, auburn-haired Daniel, who is also leading a group of rebels fighting the oppressive King Rupert. An immediate, mutual respect and attraction begins. At the heart of the story is their sweet, clean, gentle, love story.

There is a bit of a mystery as they go on a hunt for an elusive servant of the former King Edmund who can prove that the old King was murdered and replaced by wicked King Rupert. A major surprise is revealed near the end of the story, but there are no hints of it along the way so I found it somewhat contrived. The language of the book didn’t coincide with the era…..sometime in the 1700’s – the author isn’t specific, but expressions like “a purty lady like yourself can’t drive this cart. Let me help ya,” is perhaps more suited to a later period of time in the American West, I feel. Where is the story taking place? It could be England, or not. I want historical fiction to transport me to a time and place. I didn’t get that “feeling” in this novel.

Although this is an adult fiction, in my opinion it should  more appropriately be tagged as a YA book.

Note: This book is rated C = clean read.
