Promise of Mercy is the second book in the Dreamscape Warriors series by Kurt D. Springs. It continues the story some 25 years later with many of the main characters from Price of Vengeance (Book #1). I really enjoyed the first book in this series and you can read my review of Price of Vengeance.

Well-written and intelligent, the Dreamscape series blend escapism through a futuristic sci-fi novel with moral dilemmas that get the reader emotionally involved. And it's got a great cover!

In Promise of Mercy, our villain Kergan of the rebellion forces needs to distract the attention of the Galactic Alliance. By resurrecting the three Founders of Etrusci population, Kergan hopes the three can stage a coup that will bring the Galactic Alliances to Etrusci aid. The Founders choose to remove all non-pure Etrusci blood from the planet. Our hero Liam and his family are to become the first casualty of this policy. Or so the Founders thought! Liam’s tight-bond family is not your ordinary family. His three daughters just graduated from Finnians Shock Forces, the finest in the galaxy. His wife is a high priestess with dreamscape abilities and his teen son can fly anything he puts his hands on, including space fighters.

And this does not include all of Liam's extend family and friends with their own lethal or talents gifts that come in handy when your life or those of the ones you love are in danger. The Founders had not expected Liam's family's response. When Liam's eldest daughter Deirdre gets the news of her father's disappearance and her mother being held hostage, she stops at nothing to get them back, even if it means taking on Kergan and his rebellious forces halfway across the galaxy.

As in the first book, the story plot is well-executed with plenty of action and suspense. What I enjoyed the most about the book is the high value of family and friends that Kurt D. Springs brings out in the story. His ability to expose these moral lessons to young audiences, even in a fast paced sci-fi book, is enjoyable to see in an author. Although the book does avoid the pain and loss that comes with war. However, if I would have to recommend a sci-fi book for young readers this series is on the top of my list.

Note: This book is rated PG-13 for violence and bloody battle scenes.
